UK Commits Millions to Prepare Troops for Ukraine Deployment
Russia has consistently declared that it will not permit Western forces to be stationed in Ukraine and has cautioned that any foreign military personnel would be treated as legitimate targets.
Despite these warnings, Healey explained that the funding will be directed toward units designed to contribute to a multinational contingent tasked with offering “long-term security guarantees” to Ukraine.
“We are surging investment into our preparations following the prime minister’s announcement this week, ensuring that Britain’s Armed Forces are ready to deploy and lead the Multinational Force Ukraine, because a secure Ukraine means a secure UK,” Healey stated.
Following the meeting, Ukrainian Defense Minister Denis Shmigal announced that the UK will commence production of 1,000 Octopus interceptor drones each month starting in February, with deliveries scheduled for Ukraine.
Although military assistance remains strong, several European nations — notably Germany and Italy — have declined to commit to sending their own troops to Ukraine.
