UK prepares armed forces for potential deployment to Ukraine
The funding will upgrade vehicles, communications systems, counter-drone technology, and other force-protection equipment to ensure British troops are prepared if required following a future peace agreement.
The announcement comes after leaders of the UK, France, and Ukraine signed a declaration of intent in Paris this week, confirming that British and French forces would deploy to Ukraine if a peace deal is reached.
Healey stated, "As we approach the fifth year of Putin’s full-scale invasion, the Ukrainians continue to fight with huge courage – civilians and military alike." He added, “We are surging investment into our preparations following the prime minister’s announcement this week, ensuring that Britain’s Armed Forces are ready to deploy and lead the Multinational Force Ukraine, because a secure Ukraine means a secure UK."
The funding also supports the production of British-built Octopus interceptor drones, developed in collaboration with Ukrainian engineers. These drones, designed to counter Shahed-style attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure, will be produced in large numbers each month and sent to Ukraine to strengthen its air defenses.
